NDIS Plan Types Explained — Self-Managed, Plan-Managed, and NDIA-Managed
Understanding Your NDIS Plan Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
How Your NDIS Funding Works — And How Cleaning Corp Supports Every Plan Type
Whether you’re brand new to the NDIS or you’ve had a plan for years, understanding how your funding is managed can sometimes feel a little confusing. With three different plan management types — Self-Managed, Plan-Managed, and NDIA-Managed — it’s important to know which one you have, what it means for you, and how it affects the way you access services like cleaning support. The good news? At Cleaning Corp, we work seamlessly with all three plan management types. No matter how your NDIS funding is managed, we make it easy for you to access the professional, compassionate cleaning services you deserve.

What Is Self-Management?
Self-management means that you are in the driver’s seat when it comes to your NDIS funding. The NDIA deposits your funding into a dedicated bank account, and you are responsible for paying your service providers, keeping records, and managing your budget.
Self-management gives you the greatest level of choice and flexibility in the NDIS system. You can hire any provider you like — registered or unregistered — and you have more control over how, when, and where your supports are delivered.

Who Is Self-Management Best Suited For?
Self-management works well for participants who:
✅ Are comfortable managing money and keeping financial records
✅ Want maximum flexibility and choice over their providers
✅ Have a strong support network to help with administration if needed
✅ Like to be actively involved in every aspect of their plan
✅ Want to negotiate rates directly with providers
What Are the Responsibilities of a Self-Managed Participant?
With greater control comes a little more responsibility. As a self-managed participant, you will need to:
📋 Pay provider invoices directly from your NDIS funds
📋 Keep receipts, invoices, and records of all payments
📋 Make sure all spending aligns with your NDIS plan goals
📋 Submit payment requests through the myplace participant portal
📋 Ensure you don’t exceed your allocated budget
It sounds like a lot, but many participants find that having this level of control is well worth the extra administration involved.
How Cleaning Corp Works with Self-Managed Participants?
At Cleaning Corp, we love working with self-managed participants! Here’s how we make it easy for you:
- We provide clear, detailed, and itemized invoices after every service so your record-keeping is simple and accurate
- We are fully transparent about our pricing — no hidden fees, no surprises
- We can help you estimate your cleaning budget so you know exactly how much of your plan funding cleaning will use
- Our team is always available to answer questions and provide any documentation you need for your records
- Because you can choose unregistered providers as a self-managed participant, you have full freedom — but choosing a registered provider like Cleaning Corp gives you added assurance of quality and compliance
What Is Plan Management?
Plan management is a popular middle-ground option that gives you choice and flexibility without the financial administration. With plan management, a professional Plan Manager is funded through your NDIS plan to handle all the financial tasks on your behalf — including paying invoices, tracking your budget, and managing your funds. Your Plan Manager acts like a financial intermediary between you and your service providers. You focus on living your life and choosing the supports that work for you — they handle the money side of things.
Who Is Plan Management Best Suited For?
Plan management works beautifully for participants who:
✅ Want flexibility to choose their own providers
✅ Prefer not to deal with financial administration and paperwork
✅ Are new to the NDIS and want some guidance and structure
✅ Have complex support needs requiring multiple providers
✅ Want the peace of mind of professional financial oversight
What Does a Plan Manager Do?
Your Plan Manager is a registered NDIS provider who is specifically funded in your plan to:
📋 Receive and pay invoices from your service providers on your behalf
📋 Track your budget across all support categories
📋 Provide you with regular statements so you know how your funding is being used
📋 Ensure all spending complies with NDIS guidelines
📋 Offer financial guidance and advice to help you get the most from your plan
The best part? Plan management is funded separately in your NDIS plan — meaning it doesn’t come out of your other support budgets. It’s essentially a free service that makes managing your plan significantly easier.
How Cleaning Corp Works with Plan-Managed Participants?
Working with plan-managed participants is something we do every day, and we’ve made the process incredibly smooth:

NDIA-Managed (Agency-Managed)
What Is NDIA Management?
NDIA management — also called Agency management — means that the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) manages your funding directly on your behalf. You don’t handle money or invoices at all. Instead, your service providers claim payment directly from the NDIA through an online portal called the myplace provider portal. This is the most straightforward option in terms of participant administration — you simply receive your services and the NDIA handles all payments in the background.
Who Is NDIA Management Best Suited For?
NDIA management is often a good fit for participants who:
✅ Prefer not to deal with any financial administration whatsoever
✅ Are new to the NDIS and want a simple, structured starting point
✅ Have a support network managing their day-to-day decisions
✅ Are comfortable with the NDIA overseeing their funding directly
✅ Want a simple, low-maintenance plan management option
What Are the Limitations of NDIA Management?
The main thing to be aware of with NDIA management is that you can only use registered NDIS providers. This means you cannot hire unregistered providers or negotiate custom rates — all providers must be registered with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission and must charge within the official NDIS Price Limits.
While this does limit your choices compared to self or plan management, it also means that every provider you work with has been vetted and approved to the highest government standards — giving you genuine peace of mind.
How Cleaning Corp Works with NDIA-Managed Participants?
As a fully registered NDIS provider, Cleaning Corp is perfectly set up to work with NDIA-managed participants:
- We claim payment directly through the NDIA’s myplace provider portal — you don’t have to do anything at all after your service is delivered
- We strictly adhere to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, so you’ll never be charged more than the approved government rates
- Our registration means we have met all NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission requirements — giving you and your support network complete confidence in our services
- We handle all the administrative and billing processes internally, meaning your cleaning support runs completely smoothly in the background while you simply enjoy a clean, comfortable home
- Our team is experienced with NDIA billing processes and ensures accurate, timely claims every single time
Which Plan Management Type Is Right for You?
Not sure which management type suits you best? Here’s a simple, friendly summary to help guide your thinking:
- Choose Self-Management if… You want maximum freedom and flexibility, you’re comfortable with some financial administration, and you want to be actively involved in every aspect of your NDIS plan.
- Choose Plan Management if… You want good flexibility and choice over your providers but prefer to leave the financial paperwork to a professional. It’s a great balance of freedom and support — and it’s funded separately in your plan!
- Choose NDIA Management if… You want the simplest possible option with no financial administration at all, and you’re happy to choose from registered providers only.
Can I Change My Plan Management Type?
Yes! If your current management type isn’t working for you, you can request a change. You’ll need to speak to the NDIA and request a plan variation or raise it at your next plan review. Your Support Coordinator (if you have one) can help you through this process.
Not Sure What Type of Plan You Have?
That’s completely okay — many participants aren’t sure! Here are a few easy ways to find out:

- Ask your Support Coordinator if you have one — they’ll know straight away
